Main change here is you have now two shadows to face instead of one to start the mission off, and only 3 minutes to do this in.
Devil may cry 1 boss how to#
When fighting Neo Angelo, again start focusing on using Infrit attacks to learn how to face him with this to prepare for Mission 17 on DMD. Nothing else besides this has changed for enemies. Treat the fight like you did in Mission 5 back on normal mode. In the courtyard when you break the lion statue, you now face a Death Scissors instead of a shadow. Try using Sparda against him, I found it helpful. More will warp in as well during the fight as you kill them off. Sin scythes will be in the courtyard waiting for you instead of puppets, but they shouldn’t really scare you by now. There can be a shadow in the hallway right at the beginning of this mission waiting for you, and another will warp in once you defeat it. When you come back upstairs from it to the plane room, there will be all red puppets and a fetish waiting for you instead of a normal puppet mix. Nothing really new will be in the underground arena. If you stick around more fetish enemies will warp in as well. In the first fight when you get the key, you will now face more red puppets and a fetish will be downstairs for the fight.

If you have no interest in this and want to skip to the item grind, feel free to scroll past. What I will do for this mode is lay out the different enemies you will face now per mission so you can mentally prepare yourself to face harder enemies earlier than expected. If you already completed the “devil made me do it” achievement you can continue till your hearts content now (or until you run out of yellow orbs). This can be handy to buff up the amount of continues you have for the game. If you happen to repeat any of the locations of a blue orb slice from the normal run or do a secret mission, you will be rewarded with a yellow orb instead now. All items are in the game still (untouchables, devil stars, and holy waters) and can be picked up in the same locations. You can ignore all secret missions as you have already completed them and you shouldn’t have to grind too much either.

Each mission progresses exactly the same on items you need, doors you go through, and so forth. I will not be telling you where to go or what to do to finish each mission, you already know all that and if need it you can refer back to the normal walkthrough. So here is the deal on this section of the guide for hard mode. This is my main reason for writing a section about hard mode. The boss placement won’t change, but you are now going to run into Fetish puppets where you normally faced some regular puppets, shadows where you fought sin scissors or scythes, and even sometimes a death scissors where you faced a shadow before. Nice thing about normal mode is it ramped you up gradually for the types of common enemies you would face. You will face harder enemies earlier in the game. If for some reason you have yet to purchase all the blue and purple orbs or Dante’s skills no worries, they do not go up in price. This is why item grinding becomes so important after hard mode. Instead of costing 550 red orbs for an item now, they will be something like 2,700 red orbs.

The best phrase I have heard when reading about someone describe this was it seems there was a recession in Dante’s world so the red orb inflation rate went through the roof. You might be able to get away with that in this mode one more time, but it will not fly in Dante Must Die. Again, this means you need to start employing dodging techniques and start learning how to fight bosses without the hari-kari tactics of just go in to attempt to smash them in devil trigger mode all the time. I would estimate that you take now about double what you took from each hit in the normal run of the game. You take more damage from each attack now too from all enemies.

I will not be re-covering boss fights for hard mode as the tactics I mentioned in normal should still be sufficient, but in the cases (like Nightmare and Neo Angelo) where I listed an advanced method of fighting them and a “basic” way of fighting them, start using the advanced tactics if you can to start the learning process for DMD mode. Nightmare will also start upping his defense more on his weak spot which really means Infrit should come into play against him if you didn’t use it for the normal run. The Alastor air raid will still be useful for some of the fights, but it is not the same cheap win tactic that it was in normal mode where if you used it you would take off a quarter to half of a bosses health. Speaking of bosses, they also have more health and will take more to kill.
